Idaho-based artist Trevor Powers, under his musical moniker Youth Lagoon, has just released his latest album, “Rarely Do I Dream.” This project marks a significant return for Powers, coming after his hiatus from the Youth Lagoon project and his 2023 comeback album “Heaven Is a Junkyard.”
“Rarely Do I Dream” is described as an exploration of memory, nostalgia, and transformation, inspired by Powers’ discovery of childhood home videos. The album channels these personal moments into a sound that blends dream pop, electronica, and experimental music. Recorded with co-producer and mixer/engineer Rodaidh McDonald, the album delves into a narrative where past and present collide, offering listeners a deeply personal auditory experience.
The album’s lead single, “Speed Freak,” sets the tone with its moody, introspective vibe, showcasing a departure from Powers’ earlier works into more cinematic and expansive soundscapes. Other tracks like “Football,” “Lucy Takes a Picture,” and “My Beautiful Girl” have been highlighted for their lyrical depth and innovative production, drawing from ’90s industrial rhythms, indie guitar fuzz, and post-punk influences.

“Rarely Do I Dream” is available in multiple formats, including a limited-edition gatefold package with alternate artwork, a lyric booklet, and a short story by Powers, all on Dracula Red color vinyl. The album can also be streamed or downloaded digitally.
In support of the album, Youth Lagoon has announced a 2025 North American tour, starting in Spokane, Washington, and winding through major cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto, before concluding in Salt Lake City. This tour provides fans with the opportunity to experience the new material live, further immersing themselves in Powers’ evolving musical world.
