The Weather Station, fronted by Canadian singer-songwriter Tamara Lindeman, has released their seventh studio album, “Humanhood,” on January 17, 2025. This album follows the critically acclaimed “Ignorance” from 2021 and its companion “How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars” from 2022, marking a significant chapter in Lindeman’s artistic journey.
“Humanhood” is described as an album born from one of the most challenging periods in Lindeman’s life, yet it emerges with a newfound urgency and introspection. The record delves into themes of dissociation, mental health, and the search for connection amidst personal turmoil. With its release, Lindeman offers a raw and honest look at the human experience, capturing the struggle to find meaning and beauty in life’s darker moments.
“Humanhood” was recorded over two sessions in the fall of 2023 at Canterbury Music Company, with Lindeman co-producing with Marcus Paquin. The album features contributions from a six-piece band, including drummer Kieran Adams, keyboardist Ben Boye, percussionist Philippe Melanson, reed-and-wind specialist Karen Ng, and bassist Ben Whiteley. This collaborative effort resulted in music that’s both improvised and meticulously arranged, with the band shaping the album’s mood and structure live off the floor.
“Neon Signs” was released as the lead single, embodying the album’s thematic exploration with its lyrics about confusion, advertising bombardment, and relationship dynamics.
The album’s announcement was made through posts on X, including listening parties and pre-order options. The Weather Station engaged with fans through social media, offering insights into the album’s creation and thematic depth.
“Humanhood” has been met with praise for its emotional depth, lyrical richness, and the evolution of The Weather Station’s sound. Critics have highlighted the album’s ability to convey profound personal experiences while resonating universally, with many noting its place among the year’s most introspective works.
To celebrate “Humanhood,” The Weather Station has planned a tour, including dates in the UK and Europe. These live shows are expected to offer an intimate experience of the album’s tracks, showcasing the band’s ability to translate their studio work into a compelling live performance.
“Humanhood” by The Weather Station is not just a collection of songs but a narrative of survival, healing, and the search for human connection. Through this album, Lindeman continues to cement her status as one of the most poignant voices in contemporary music, offering listeners a space to reflect on their own experiences of chaos and beauty.
