In an eagerly anticipated announcement, the estate of the late rapper Mac Miller has confirmed the release of his unreleased album, “Balloonerism,” slated for January 17, 2025. This news comes after years of speculation among fans, with unofficial versions of the album circulating online since its creation around the time of Miller’s 2014 mixtape, “Faces.”
“Balloonerism” was originally recorded over a decade ago but was shelved in favor of other projects like “GO:OD AM”. According to statements from Miller’s estate, the album holds a special significance as it was a project Mac Miller, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick, had always expressed a desire to see released. “It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm—to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly,” the estate shared.
This album promises to showcase Miller’s broad musical talents and his fearless approach to artistry. The decision to release “Balloonerism” comes after years of fans enjoying bootlegged versions, with the estate feeling that it was time to honor Miller’s wishes by providing an official release. The album will feature 14 tracks, including hits like “The Song That Changed Everything” featuring SZA and “5 Dollar Pony Rides”, which have already been hinted at in a trailer showcased at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival.
The album’s artwork, painted by artist Alim Smith, was personally requested by Miller, adding an emotional layer to this posthumous release. Various formats including deluxe vinyl, clear vinyl, CD, and cassette will be available, catering to collectors and fans alike.
Mac Miller’s legacy continues to grow with this release, following his critically acclaimed “Circles” in 2020, which was also a posthumous project. “Balloonerism” is not just another album; it’s a celebration of Miller’s creativity and a gift to fans who have long awaited this piece of his artistic journey.
As we approach the release date, the anticipation builds, promising a moment of reflection, celebration, and appreciation for one of hip-hop’s most thoughtful and innovative artists.
