The experimental electronic trio DARKSIDE, consisting of Nicolás Jaar, Dave Harrington, and new member Tlacael Esparza, has unveiled details about their upcoming album, “Nothing.” Set for release on February 28th, this marks the third studio album from the group, following their critically acclaimed releases “Psychic” (2013) and “Spiral” (2021).
“Nothing” is described as a profound exploration of “negative space, telepathic seance, and spectral improvisation,” pushing the boundaries of their previous work into new, uncharted territories. This album was born from spontaneous jams, acoustic riffing, and digital manipulation, showcasing a shift in their creative process. Unlike their earlier efforts, “Nothing” was crafted from the ground up with Esparza as a full-time member, adding a new dimension to DARKSIDE’s sound with his drumming and instrument design.
The album features nine tracks, including the previously released single “S.N.C.” (short for “still no center”), which has already stirred interest with its hypnotic layers and intricate production. “Nothing” promises to be a record that evolves with each listen, revealing new intricacies and nuances, according to the band.
To celebrate the album’s release, DARKSIDE has announced their first North American tour in 11 years, scheduled to start in March. This tour will take them to major cities like Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and more, including festival performances at Coachella and Big Ears. The tour not only marks a return to live performances for the band but also an opportunity for fans to experience the new album’s material in a live setting.
The announcement has generated excitement among fans and critics alike, with many eager to delve into the sonic landscapes that “Nothing” promises. Reviews of the single “S.N.C.” have praised its complexity and emotional depth, setting high expectations for the full album.
“Nothing” will be available for purchase in various formats, including vinyl, CD, and digital download, with pre-orders offering exclusive content like a 12×12″ album cover art print. The album is set to be released under Matador Records, continuing DARKSIDE’s partnership with the label.
With “Nothing,” DARKSIDE not only returns to the music scene but does so with an album that seems poised to redefine their musical narrative, offering listeners an experience that’s both introspective and expansive.
