Naomi Osaka is back in the Grand Slam spotlight after defeating Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 to reach her first major quarterfinal since 2021. Playing with the precision and power that once made her world No. 1, Osaka dominated from start to finish, winning 32 of 38 points on serve, never facing a break point, and capitalizing on Gauff’s 33 unforced errors.

The win marks a milestone in her comeback journey, following a 17-month break from tennis to focus on motherhood. After the match, Osaka consoled an emotional Gauff, echoing the sportsmanship they shared during their 2019 U.S. Open encounter.

Osaka now advances to face Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals, with a semifinal spot on the line.
